Marriage Preparation

To begin the process of Marriage at St Viator please, call the pastor first. Six months notice should be given. He will then assign a Mentor couple to lead you through "For Better and For Ever" a marriage preparation workbook. Times are set up to accommodate both the couple and the team. They meet 6 times over a course of weeks leading up to the marriage.

Our Marriage preparation is an opportunity for you and your future spouse to spend some uninterrupted time helping to insure that your life together has the best possible start. Mentoring couples assist in the preparation for the Sacrament in the Catholic tradition. Attendance by both partners at all sessions is a requirement in order to completely fulfill the Church's requirement for Marriage Preparation.

Certificates & Forms

Your baptism certificate must be presented and should be not dated more than six months.

If the marriage is to take place outside the parish of the bride or groom, a letter of permission from the pastor of the bride or groom is required.

A Marriage License is always necessary.

There are a number of forms to be filled in by the priest both for the government and for the church. It is important to do these early in the preparation.

" The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacramen." (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1601)
